How did the name bloom into the powerhouse you are today? IVY PH was originally intended to be a six-member cover group focused solely on performing songs…

5/5

IVY PH was originally intended to be a six-member cover group focused solely on performing songs by the K-pop group IVE. However, as more members joined, the group decided not to limit themselves to covering just one artist.

Instead, they wanted to showcase their versatility by performing songs from various groups. From the original six, IVY PH has grown to 30 members, ranging in age from 14 to 25.

We consistently strive to break our own records and improve with each performance, pushing ourselves to grow and become the best versions of who we can be.

If our dance style had a flavor, I believe it would be sweet and spicy. We always strive to showcase the two sides of IVY PH—just like that flavor, we can be sweet, but also bring the spice when needed.

The secret sauce that sets us apart from other crews is our attention to detail. We always make sure that when we cover performances from K-pop groups, we do so with 100% precision.
I guess that’s what other groups often lack—they cover the songs based on what they see, but they don’t dive deeper into the small details that truly add flavor to a performance.

Performance & style

When we hit the stage, the first thing we want the audience to feel is intrigue. It takes a different kind of stage presence to make your audience curious and yearn for more.
It’s always the goal of the performers to keep their audiences entertained, but it always starts at catching the audience’s attention.

We dance to both express and impress, but our main priority is always to express. All our song choices are intentional; may it be to send a message or to create an unforgettable performance, we always strive to dance with a purpose.

Freestyle makes my heart beat harder. There’s something captivating about seeing the raw, unfiltered side of a person through freestyle—when the movement isn’t planned but flows naturally from the body. Unlike choreography, which is structured and intentional, freestyle is spontaneous and expressive. It’s in those unscripted moments that you truly see someone’s essence come alive.

The one move that screams ‘IVY PH’ every time we do it is our high kicks. We’ve always had a knack for doing tricks onstage, like in our TRI.BE cover and the performances after that, but our first “viral moment” was when we did Gfriend’s iconic high kick from Glass Bead and ever since then, we haven’t held back. This resulted in another viral moment when we covered MEOVV and KATSEYE and did a costume change on stage.

Cultural impact & representation

The group comes from Davao city in the Mindanao part of the Philippines that primarily speaks Bisaya, so IVY considers itself to be a champion of those hailing from the region and speaking the same tongue. We are fierce underdogs who are as rife with talent as the resources in the place we come from. In us lies a hunger to prove and show what we are made of, to consistently compete with ourselves in order to show our best work. Moreover, being Filipino means that IVY has a strong sense of community and faith. Despite having a lot of members, we develop our sisterhood and trust the team in whatever endeavor we enter into.

The concept of Filipinos being talented is not new. We have always been known to be just as exceptional in dancing as we are in singing. What’s different now is that more opportunities have become available and we are no longer limited to dancing within our city or country–we can reach far corners of the globe. As such, IVY is taking every chance it can to be a representative of Filipino dancers and maintain the standard the Philippines is known for.

IVY is setting its sights on being able to perform abroad, particularly to compete in South Korea with other immensely talented dancers. The group wants to showcase its capabilities on the world stage and bring pride to Filipinos.

Personal & behind-the-scenes

Jurin, Maia, and Rychele were hands-down the funniest members of the crew. Their humor was unmatched—sharp, spontaneous, and absolutely contagious. Whether it was a clever one-liner from Jurin, Maia’s perfectly timed sarcasm, or Rychele’s hilarious impressions, they kept everyone laughing. You never knew what was coming next, but you knew it would be funny.

We’ve definitely felt the pressure when things don’t go perfectly on stage. We have had moments where we missed a step or messed up the timing, and it really shook our confidence. Those slip-ups felt huge at the time, but they’ve pushed us to grow and keep improving. Every small failure has helped rebuild our strength and rhythm.

One of the craziest rehearsal moments we had was during the Globe Hangouts GoKorean K-Idol Revolution competition in December 2024. Just two weeks before the event, we had to completely change our final piece, which threw us into a whirlwind of rehearsals and adjustments. It felt like setback after setback, and the pressure was intense. Despite the chaos, we pulled through and came out stronger as a team. It was a challenging but unforgettable experience that taught us so many valuable lessons.

Inspiration & fans

Keep dancing no matter who’s watching. What sets dancers like IVY PH apart isn’t perfection, it is our persistence, passion, and the courage to stand proud even when others try to bring you down. Let your passion fuel you, not people’s opinions. We are proof that staying real, working hard, and dancing from the heart can take you further than chasing fame ever will. Just a reminder, every cover group starts small. What matters is showing up, giving your all, and remembering why you dance.

IVY PH is fearless
